Leaking thetford cassette toilet (C2)?

We have just purchased a 1991 caravan which has a thetford cassette toilet. We filled the flush tank, and after a while we noticed that the edge of the carpet outside the bathroom was wet. The only way it could have got there was from the toilet. Any ideas?
Also it wouldn't flush. The mains wasn't connected, but the battery was.
We would appreciate any help, especially as we are novice caravanners.
Thank you

We have had this leaking problem we did not empty the flush tank,we have been caravan ers for 25 years and have never completely emptied the flush tank before,so we can't understand why this latest thetford toilet is not sealed completely?very poor construction in my opinion, the other problem is the fill door allows rain water to get in so in turn the flush tank fills up when the van is in storage, there doesn't seem to be a very good seal on the door,so before you hook up and drive to your location it may pay you too flush the toilet and see how much water you get out before setting off.complete pain in the butt, thetford should be ashamed!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I have just got back from our caravan repairers. Our caravan went in for its 2nd service earlier this year and they told us we had damp in the toilet area.I took it in yesterday for the repairs under the makers warranty scheme as it is only 2 years old. The repairers called us in this morning to see the damage. The whole toilet floor is rotten All around the door seal and the walls are also damp. The point is they have told us it is our fault, it is caused by my filling the toilet flusher tank up or not emptying it before we move, and it is not covered by the makers guarantee. In a touring caravan you would expect a sealed unit but apparantly not, as is stated in the Thetford Manual, so only travel with an empty tank. PS our caravan repairer says we are the 7th person he has come across to have done this. We would be interested to know of any more who have had this problem as it has never been a problem in our previous caravans.

I've had it been there done that off to France in my caravan Friday.
An electric flush is the left hand knob facing the toilet. On the right is the toilet roll holder. Lift the roll holder out and pull the cup it fits in to up and out of the tank top. Now get a stick ready fill the water tank and measure depth with the stick. Then check water lever every 15 minutes. If dropping and carpet wet then big problem the tank may have cracked. If no different then it could be as Nick said. Now for the left hand flush knob. That turned anti clock wise opens the valve in the bottom of the bowl [the valve is on the holding tank. You press the same knob for the electric flush. To remove the waste holding tank YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT VALVE IS SHUT OR YOU WILL BREAK THE OPERATING LEAVERS. So always ensure before removing waste holding tank that valve is shut [knob turned clockwise]. Outside open toilet holding tank water filler is the top swing out one. To remove the toilet holding tank press down on the wide plastic strip at the bottom of the tank hold it down slide tank a littlle way out watch your fingers, then hold the front handle with right/left hand and gradually ease the tank out grab the top back handle and pull it clear. Keep the tank with the empty tube uppermost. Cart it off to disposal point turn the empty tube to vertical position unscrew the cap put grab the top of tank handle under the tube and the bottom handle tip into the disposal tank/ bowl at the same time press the largish white button to allow air to enter the tank for rapid emptying. rinse job done. put about a pint of water in the tank re-cap and back at the van pour the blue stuff in through the empty tube. The pink stuff goes in the water filler above the holding tank.
Any more info you'll have to be quick I'm gone Friday. Oh! on front right side of toilet water tank is the level indicator suggest you only let it go to half red before emptying.
I can tell you more like how to replace pump if it packs up but you'll have to be quick because I'll be gone Friday and stop using computer Thursday. Back on 26. Want more then send email to robertwhiting76@hotmail.com

Hi,
check your leak is not rain water coming in from a badly sealed cassette door, mine leaks in, hopefully about to try and rectify it. To flush, rotate the righthand large knob clockwise, may take a few goes to pump the flush fluid in. If it has an electric flush is battery flat? Poss check fuses. Electric flush models normally have toilet roll storage under the large righthand control.
Hope this helps
