Instruction manual for Pifco Slow Cooker (pifco no. 4853)?

Does anyone out there have a manual for an old Pifco Slow Cooker? On the bottom of the cooker it has a "Pifco Number 4853" on it but apart from that there is no model name or number. My mother-in-law gave it to me as it was a gift from her mother (so you can guess how old it is!) and i've no idea how to use it. Help!!!

there's a manual for the 4852, which is probably very similar, at http://kevparr.com/misc/pifco.php

It's good to see the info here. Thanks to all contributors. i'm here because i've inherited a Pifco 4850 slow cooker, but have no manual.

i'd be very happy to publish such a manual and/or any other relevant info in the Miscellaneous section of my website kevparr.com AND make a copies available for download .. as soon as some kind soul emails a scanned copy of it (or info in ANY format) to me at the address shown at the top of that webpage.

If any info about the 4853 is received, that too could be shown.

Pifco 4850

I have just been given a Pifco 4850 and I can't wait to use it but have no idea to start. Would it be possible for someone who has a copy of the manual to scan it in and post it somewhere or email it? I know I would be eternally grateful, and by the look of these postings so would loads of other people.

I have manuals for the 4853 & 4850 models. How do I contact the people who need them?

Pat, March 2009
I have got a 4850. It's orange aluminium with a heavy pot inside. I am looking for a new pot cos the others cracked. NOTICED YOUR MAIL.
I cook a stew every week.
In the morning I chop up everything I see in the veg box.
Start them off in the microwave. {Though not necessary}
Add whatever meat I have - mince, chopped steak chops,( sometimes I cook the meat with some chopped onion for a few minutes.}
Then I put it in the pot on high till it starts to bubble and then turn it to low.
Eat it for my evening meal that day.
Leave remainder on low.
The remainder is even better next day.
Sometimes dump it in a pie.
Lovely.
If you work, put it on before you leave in the morning and add dumplings when you get home.
It'll be cooked in 20 minutes and is great.

Realise I'm a novice at using sites like this, and maybe this is the only way we get in touch with each other? - I've found a helpful slow cooker recipe book and the only thing I really need to know from Jill with the original instructions is whether the PIFCO 4850 is one that you are supposed to heat up empty first, or if you must start it off with the food and liquid in it. I've decided to do the latter to be on the safe side and it seems to be fine, but would be grateful for any advice.
What I can say is that it made the most amazing stock from the goose carcase - usually when you simmer bones the meat you're left with is all raggy and only fit for the cat (who usually turns her nose up at it) but I made a wonderful shepherd's pie with what was left from the goose bones after slow cooking them, and have pots of fantastic jellied stock in the freezer.

I have just been given a Pifco 4850 without instructions and would be very grateful to have yours or at least some basic guidance on how to use it. Looking forward to lovely melting stews!

Hi,
We have a Pifco 4850 Slow Cooker, which is at least 20 years old and still going strong. Believe it or not we also have the instructions so if you are still looking we can send you a copy
