problem with belts on my maytag washer?

My belts were smoking on my maytag washer, so i took them off and got new ones and they told me my old belts were shot. I put the new ones on but my washer still doesn't work and the belts still smoke. What could be the problem? Also the model i have has 2 belts.

make sure that no material or clothes got caught in the upper lip of washer. If the washer is older try to turn the drum.
#1 unplug washer
#2 lift up lid
#3 turn center drum in both direction with the belts off
#4 turn motor pulley on bottom of washer in both directions
#5 if they turn install belt

Hello,

Make sure your motor, pump and transmission pulleys are not seized otherwise you'll keep burning the belts.
