i just did this last night. you need a tool from craftsman to remove it. i am cheap so i made my own. i took an old 7/32 long socket and welded a couple of pieces of metal(i used 2 cut down pieces of 3/8ths or so hex wrench) on each end so that they would grab on each end of the clutch. worked like a charm.

Insert a flat screwdriver blade at the end of the part marked "OFF". Lever the sliding part of the clutch away from the shaft. It will slide out and the spring will probably fly off or it can be pried out of its groove. The spring has hooks on each end whch can be used to re-assemble.

Now - How do you get the clutch off the shaft so the plastic housing can be removed to service the impulse starter??????
