Toilet cistern waterfall?

Hi all,

When I flush my toilet water floods down from my cistern and onto the floor. It makes a nice water fall but really I’d like the water to go to my toilet bowl. I’m presuming a seal has gone somewhere but if anyone could give me some advice I’d very much appreciate it.

Presumably your system is a low level one with a flush pipe connecting the pan to the cistern ? If so, then there is a circular seal missing from the down pipe connection to the underside of the syphon tube protruding thru the base of the cistern. You should be able to buy just the circular rubber seal or maybe it's still there but not fitted correctly. Undo the large plastic nut and look inside the syphone pipe. the correct seal should not be able to go any further
than the entrance to the threaded pipe.

I take it it's a close coupled one ie: cistern sits on top of pan if so it's likely to be the thick sealing washer between the cistern and bowl. Turn water feed to cistern off and flush it. Release the water feed from the cistern.
Undo the two screws inside at back of cistern that fixes it to the wall[if it is fixed].
Undo the pan to cistern fixing bolts remove the cistern replace the thick washer obtainable at plumbing outlets or the DIY stores. If the cistern is not fixed to the wall via the rear top screw holes then fix it as movement can cause it to leak again.
Obviously reverse proceedure for re-fixing.
