how can i replace the stitch tension dial on my singer 6212 excelle?

i have a replacement tension dial, but it doesnt seem to fsnap into place. it is the same as the old one, any help please!!!!!!

Hello Lesley,
The new unit will have a pin through it, make sure the pin from the old one is not in the machine, make sure the presser foot is down when you put the new one in.
