I have newly acquired a lovely old treadle machine couldn't afford an electric one but am not disappointed. However when you use the treadle the wheel turns but the needle does not.
I have loosened and tightened the locking wheel to no avail. any ideas what I could try to make it work?

Sounds like you need to reset the stop motion, unscrew the screw in the stop motion wheel, undo the stop motion wheel all the way off, you will see a big three pronged washer, take it off and put it on a different way, put the stop motion wheel back on and tighten hand tight, put the screrw back in and test to see if you can loosen the wheel and then tighten again, if it does not then take it off again and put the washer in a different position, you can turn the washer upside down as well.
