how do I take out a chimney breast in the bedrrom above an inglenook?

I have an 18th century cottage with an inglenook - the problem is the chimney breast in the above bedroom is the same size and takes up masses of room which could be used for a bathroom. I would like to take it out and replace with a much smaller chimney - (i want to put a hood in the inglenook and vent the smoke up a normal sized chimney. The roof is thatched needless to say.

You should consider contacting the this old house show. if they take you on they are able to get some of the materials donated so you may not have to bear the whole cost of your project yourself. BUT DO NOT TRY TO DO THIS YOURSELF UNLESS YOU ARE A LICENSED CONTRACTOR AND EVEN IF YOU ARE YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS COULD DAMAGE YOUR HOUSE UNLESS IT IS DONE CORRECTLY. this old house is on most PBS stations and you can email ask this old house for help.

feasable to renew with standard bricks and a copex liner but this would have to extend all the way to the exterior chimney altering the look of the house very large job including dismantleing roof structure/thatch .very probably thousands.very probable not permited by building control or given the age of house its most likely listed/herritage protected.sorry
