Sounds like you've got the power wires around the wrong way. The red wire should go to switched 12v and the yellow wire should go to constant 12v

There are usually two battery supplies to the radio. One goes via the ignition switch used for running the radio , the other is a permanent battery feed for the memory. It looks like it`s the second feed that is missing.
