How can I disconnect the freezer compartment of my Smeg FAB28 fridge?

The freezer compartment of my FAB28 Smeg fridge ices up with alarming pace. The fridge is fine though. Surely there must be a way to disconnect the freezer part instead of replacing the whole fridge?
Can you help or advise?
