Problem with Goodmans TV - picture falls to bottom - worth repair?

Hi,

I have a 14 year old Goodmans TV - still very good.

It has a slight problem - the picture falls to the bottom of the screen - a good bang on the top restores it and it gets better the longer it is left on - usually stops doing it after about 5 mins on but starts again straight away if you turn it off. There is a clicking sound coming from the TV when it is not displaying right.

Is it worth the £35 per hour to repair? or is 14 years a good innings - time to retire to clubhouse!!!

Many thanks in advance

Hi, it looks like there is a poor connection( dry joint) in the field output circuitry, either on the i.c. or scan coil plug/socket as physically disturbing the chassis corrects the fault. If the picture is o.k. ( white content of pic doesnt go silvery when you turn up the brightness) it might be worth a repair although the crt could be coming to the end of its life after 14 yrs ,just depends how much use it gets.if its your main set and not a portable it would be worth it,as no parts are required just a soldered connection repair.
