Hi , It will depend,are you using 3 in 1 tablets? if so salt is not required,ignore any lights etc.
If you want salt,usually there is a window on the salt cap and a floating disc.This is a hydrometer and the disc floats when the amount of salt content in the water makes the disc float.If you can see the disc in the window, then you have enough salt.If you have no window in the cap then just fill to within 2 ins of the top,water will come out,that is okay,then screw the cap on .
