Careful here! First, the brown leads....one comes in from the fuse box, two continues to the next light. three takes a live to the switch, four is the live back again when the switch is on. The blue leads (neutral) - one comes in from the fuse box, two continues to the next light. All of these connections are within the ceiling rose - but the two outer terminals (one brown, one blue) are the ones that SHOULD connect to the ceiling bulb. What I do is to wire all of these connections into a 4 terminal junction box in the roof void, and to fix your spotlamps, take one neutral connection and the other live that comes back from the switch, if you get my drift. However, you must identify which wires are which to avoid giving yourself a huge headache. I've left out the earth wires here - naturally they must continue to be connected together.
