Fix or bin Sony DAV S550 5.1 DVD Player?

I have a 5 year old surround DVD system DAV S550 which is frustrating me as it sticks towards the end of a film. I thought it was because a particular DVD was a long one (+ 2 hours) but it has done it since on shorter films.
Is it a problem switching layers or with the drive which is sticking? Will a new laser unit solve this?
Any assistance greatly received.
Thanks

Mine does the same. The likelihood of it happening does seem to increase with time so perhaps the other poster's suggestion of overheating problems is correct. I suppose you could open it up and make sure the cooling fan isn't dirty or obstructed. I wonder if it's possible to replace it with a more powerful unit but then I guess it would be noisier.

I reckon the unit's overheating. Mine does the same thing, always towards end of CD. Or else won't play the additional DVD items after finishing the movie.

Am trying to find whether there is a fan in the unit that can be replaced, or whether it is another component at fault. Please tell me if you find how to fix it!

i have the same problem, fortunately it shows a week before it rans out of warranty. it's just that the technician didn't told me what exactly they did to the unit, but just gave an idea that they somewhat upgraded it (couldn't remember if firmware or a certain part). He just told me that some customers with similar model also came for repair. After the repair, it even reads bootlegged dvd. last night i setup a Sony DAV-DZ570 for a friend, i still like the sound quality of s550 over that newer model.
