Can I fix broken Singer 317 (1950s) Foot Pedal?

The SIMANCO 192141 rheostat in the foot control has cracked & the ferrite discs have fallen out, 3 or 4 are broken. Guess I cant buy a replacement rheostat, can I glue it back together & will the loss of the broken ferrite discs prevent it working. Else can I get a replacement foot control & wire it in to the original 3 way Singer plug?

Thanks Ken, thats good news, was thinking I was going to have to make metal discs to replace broken ferrites & clamp rheostat together! Do the replacement foot controls come with Singer plug or will I have to connect the old lead to it?
Thanks again

Hello fran,
No you can't repair it because it will run erratically, you can get replacement foot controls only, normally YDK model, you don't need to have a replacement Singer control in fact the new control will be far superior instead of the button, any good sewing machine shop will supply a new control or you can get them on line, www.sewingonline.co.uk/instructions if you are in the UK or www.tandtrepair.com if you are in the US, ver easy to fit.
