Ok, Then I have another questinon: my setup has right large brass pulley, small left brass pulley, one plastic notch on right side on back and 2 plastic notch (each side) on front UNDER the small ATTACHED valance. I must be doing something very wrong because I end up with no string on the LEFT side and no way, that I can see, to bring up a string UNDER the blind itself. I have one of these installed on my kitchen window which is a similar setup but it does not have the attached valance. My problem is having the attached valance, I guess. The blinds are by Lewis Hyman, 72"x72" matchstick blinds in natural. I keep getting the pulleys caught up in the blinds no matter what I try. I am going on about 8 hours of trying to decipher instructions, speaking with a friend for an hour plus getting assistance from another website. Maybe you can assist with this? As I said, no way to wrap UNDER the valance, no way to keep the cord untangled from the "matchsticks" and, not said but stating now, instructions are VERY unclear. By the last comment I mean that it says, on the color brochure, to keep cords under blind (right and left) but only one came attached, second instruction is for how to set up for small children (which I do not need to worry about) and a small little card attached (same instructions as for the piece of paper). This whole mess is because the blinds are not "ready to install) as stated, but because only ONE SIDE is installed. Now, I might add) that one side does work as far as the unlock mechanism works to release the cord and it does raise/lower the blind on the right side.
Mahalo for any assistance.

I did it also! I put the string in the back left in the little plastic holder. Came behind and under to go up the front left. Went through the front left pulley to right pulley. Did the same on the right side. Had a longer string on the right, so I dropped the blind full length and made sure I had enought cord on both sides to trim them evenly. Put back on the knobs. Works great! Thank you for your help.

I stupidly pulled the string through also and searched and searched for help. Thanks! I now have shade in 95+ temp!

Your instructions are not complete. It is necessary to use another cord on the right hand assembly as well. You end up with three cords coming down the right front .

Thank you so much for writing these instructions Marie H !
I've nearly driven myself mad this afternoon !! till I found this - by the way I had it all right except one right to left over a pulley and that was foxing me each time ! My blind is back up now and works a treat !

trickey but have just done it
1 tie one end of string to back left side of blind
2 bring the string to bottom at back and up the front of the blind
3 put string through pulley at front left
4 bring string across front top of blind
5 push string through the right hand pulley on right hand side where the grip is
6 this is the loop to pull up and down the blinds
7 bring string up again through the grip around the plastic wheel( right to left )and down the front of the blind ( the sring does not go through the grip this time)
8 bring the string down the front and up the back of the blind and tie
hope it works
