Slow Cassette Play?

I purchased a Sony home audio cassette player. The player plays the cassettes slower than normal. Is there an adjustment that can be made internally or what needs to be done to fix?

don't know the model but there's usually a small potentiometer with a slot for screwdriver possibly near the motor as upping the volts to the motor increases speed...but if it's new it could be that you recorded on a m/cthat was running fast and now playing them back they come out slow...but if they are prerecorded tapes (bought) then there is something wrong with your present recorder
