First thing to do is re-sync the remote.
1/ Make sure the doors, tailgate, bonnet and fuel filler cover are properly closed.
2/ Get in the car.
3/ Lock the doors by pushing down the door knobs.
4/ Turn ignition on (i.e. dashboard lights on but don't start engine).
5/ Push the unlock button on the fob. Doors should unlock.
6/ Turn ignition off, remove key, get out of the car and close the door.
7/ Lock using the remote, wait a few seconds then unlock with the remote. The alarm should now be back to normal.
This method has always worked for me, but if it doesn't on your car an alternative is to ignore step 3, and at step 5 press both buttons on the remote at the same time.

Are you opening it with the remote or by using the key in the door?
Does the car start O.K.?
Have you tried the spare key?
