It probably burned up. Critters in the walls eat on electric wires and cause problems. Make sure circuit is turned off at the circuit box, or the fuse is removed. Then carefully remove socket from wall and check wiring to socket. Black wire to Gold Screw, White wire to Silver Screw and Green wire to Green screw. I would probably replace socket for safety to start with a new one and make sure the wires are not bare.....
