I own a 18v Dewalt Hammer/drill/driver Model DC988. It is throwing a lot sparks around the brushes and will smoke when run for more than a few seconds. It doesn't have any power though the battery pack is fully charged. It has not been used alot yet there is a considerable amount of carbon on the rear housing. I suspect the brushes. Any suggestions?

Agreed the brushes are suspect,but I'd clean the commutator/segments first and check for free movement of brushes.
