washing machine stops just at start of spin?

MY HOTPOINT WMA 32 1200 SPIN STOPS AT THE BEGINING OF THE SPIN ON ANY PROGAM. WHEN IT STOPS THE RED INDICATOR LIGHTS WHICH TELL YOU PART OF THE PROGAM YOU ARE ON ,COME ON. QUESTION : WHAT CAUSES THIS?
DIAMOND, August 2008
A common cause of this fault, on a machine that does everything else that it should but just will not go into a spin, is worn carbon brushes in the motor. They are not that expensive and although sometimes a bit of a fiddle are fairly easy to replace. If you remove one from your machine, then, just for comparison, the carbon on a new brush is roughly about 35mm in length. If you check them and decide to buy a new set then there's one thing to be aware of. When you take them out of the packet you may think the carbon still looks very small. The carbon is fragile and can break easily so, for protection it is often held in place within it's casing. You may need to bend out a small locking tab on the casing to fully release the carbon. The best thing would be to ask about that when, and if, you buy them and get them to show you how to release them. It is possible that the brushes are not the problem but, not knowing the flashing led error codes, they are what i would check first. Good luck.
