We have a Heatslave 26/32 and this was starting to give off blackened fumes (outside cage over vent was getting sooty). Removal of the burner box cover and dismantling of the burner head and careful clean of all parts with alcohol solution and wire wool if needed solved ours.
Do not loosen burn head, clean in situ, as this is set to the correct distance from oil spray nozzle etc.
A neighbour had a W-Bosch engineer to theirs for a service and had to call them back four times. In the end it started giving off very dense black smoke and then packed up. The "engineer" (loose term?!) had re-assembled burner box incorrectly (hmmm...) and the burn head had slowly burnt a hole clean through the baffle, causing smoking and overheating problem.
My advice - Do it yourself (remember you do not need to be Corgi registered with an oil burner as the case for gas). Carefully, sketch out what you find as you disassemble if you need to, and rest assured you are in the safest and best hands - your own!
