how to fix hoitpoint minstral fridge freezer frost free?

My fridge freezer is freezing at 22 deg which is the recommended temp but while the freezer sectiion is working great, the fridge keeps going wrong, and not keeping a cold temp, and every so often it gets cold again and keeps going back to not working again. I have tried switching it off for 48 hours and when switched back on it is working, but goes back to not working after a few days please can you advise and help

could be a faulty thermistor located in the freezer compartment behind the rear panel or ice build up on the evaporator

We have got the same problem... we have had ther unit for 5 years, we had Hotpoint out 3 years ago (we didnt pay the extended warranty), the engineer reccomended a defrost (funny, they are supposed to be automatic, sold under a misconception!), has worked fine until now, we have an engineer scheduled for next week, we will let you know what the answer is. What gets me is that the legend says 'intelligent care', this unit is neither, i hope Hotpoint read this, there is obviously a problem but no error code, obviously the unit is microprocessor controlled so why no warning to guide to the fault! Totally crap.

Sorry it doesnt give you an answer, I feel better though. I design control systems for a living, thats why I find this 'Inteligent care' even more annoying because it gives no guidance other than 'get the engineer out' at god knows how much for the first hour or part thereof. If at least there was an error code, one could check what it meant and how much, this would then help with 'do I go buy a Bosch!'.
