Download the free version of ESET NOD32 antivirus, or the free version of Avira Antivirus. AVG 8 went to hell. Also ... what these guys don't realize is that you may have a rootkit virus in your system , and AVG amongst other things doesn't really cover that.

Look up online " rootkit " and read up on them.
