like MIchael said, just solder it and it is like new. i took mine to local electronics shop because you do need good skills ( the area to solder isnt much bigger than a pinhead) they did it for a few £.

i now have a bigger problem - dropped it from waist height and the HDD is dead :(

This problem hits most players because the phono jack get jarred and over time something has to give. My fault was two of the contacts had come away from the PCB. I re-solder them and everything is perfect.

Get it repaired under warranty is your first option but you can do it yourself. Another thread has the instructions on how to open the zen (on this site)

I'm having problems with the hard drive component of my Micro but from what I've been seeing in relation to this phone jack problem is that it is indeed a component problem and if you get a RMA# from Creative's web site, pay the postage to send it to them and enclose $24.95 US, they generally send you a complete replacement unit.

This isnt an answer either but i have the exact samw problem, man, now i think that its a normal problem

sorry--this isn't an answer to your question, but i wanted to tell you that i have the same problem and i noticed it within a few weeks of initial use. i wonder if it's a manufacturing problem. the complete sound only comes through if i nudge & hold the jack at a specific position in the socket.
