Transit 2.5d '94 Intermittent power loss during long journey's? ?

But it seems ok on shorter 1's (like round town). If i'm doing 60 ish for more than 20mins, thats when it starts to die. I have to take my foot off the throttle for say 5 secs, then when i put it down again i get a bit more of a acceleration. I repeat this saga til i get to my destination...I'v recently changed the fuel filter (and had all the associated problems with that-van not starting etc. but i filled it with fuel which sorted that), but the van had the fault b4 the change-which is why i changed it. Any ideas? p.s. Is there meant to be an arrow on the fuel filter and on the housng to the fuel filter? Why would there be this? The filter only goes on one way??
Anyhow, thanks-Ben.

Apparently this is a common fault. Try re-routing the injector return pipe (tie it up) so that you maintain a puddle of fuel in the line along the top of the injectors. Otherwise air can be induced into the high pressure side. Don't ask me how or why! But it worked for me.

Hi Caine. I tried driving it for a bit without the filler cap on, but there still seems to be the problem. It feels like there's air coming in somewhere, so i'm gonna have another look at the fuel filter, as these are apparently notorious for this kind of fault...Thanks.

As I have said before caine, there is no fuel filler cap vent, the vent is on top of the tank.

ok caine i'l try this. Thanks-Ben.

its possible your fuel filler cap vent is blocked.fair ammount of suck in fuel lines and the tank has to be vented, otherwise eventually vacum exist in tank and pump cant overcome this.test by removing fuel cap and temp' replacing with throw away garage one.
