my dishwasher is only filling up and empting but its not doing any washing cycles.its a beko machine and its only over a year old

Baffled me but the service engineer diagnosed a faulty "flow meter" which when replaced sorted the problem. about 2-3 inches across it sits in the supply line and sends a signal that sufficient water is being supplied - if not it pumps out and off you go again.
