How can I repair heel marks on a wooden floor?

My friend came over for dinner and was wearing stilletto heels which were clearly missing their rubber cap. When she left, I discovered tiny holes (predominiantly dotted around one area) embedded the dark wood kitchen floors. How can I repair this without having to re-sand the whole floor?

You could try placing a damp cloth over a test area and run a hot iron gently over it,try a little at a time and see if you get any improvement, the steam generated should expand the wood back up,furniture repairers use this method.
