The answer may be as simple as cleaning your CD drive assembly assuming that this fault has just accured and used to play DVD's.
Use a small paint brush to brush away any dust that has accumalated, taking care not to scratch the laser eye.
Re-lubricate the SLED rails (the bars that the Laser Rides on) and the drive Cog's/Wheels with Zinc and Castor Oil Cream with a Q-tip/Cotton bud (Not too much).
Try a Dvd!
If no joy you can try adusting the laser Pot's (if you have access to a digital multimeter).
There are two Variable potentiometers on the bottom of the Laser, one for DVD and one for CD. (Hopefully for you they are labled).
Adjust the DVD pot to 2600 ohms or as near as you can get it.
Re-assemble and give the laser eye a clean, then try a dvd.
If still no joy, the DVD laser diode may have given up the Ghost and a new laser is needed (A repair for the Laser does not exist! - that you could do.)
Hope this helps and Good luck.
