my hot water taps create a loud banging and they rattle a lot. ?

The downstairs toilet also whistles intermittently day and night. We are at our wits end and plumbers cost a fortune.

Banging is normally caused by air in the pipes.
Whistling is caused by the speed of the water travelling past narrow parts ie: water valves in cisterns, especially when the valve starts to slowly close.
Both problems are not that difficult to fix, and shouldn't cost that much. Having said that if you live in London it might cost a kings ransom :-)
