Thanks Kevin from the info.this cured my problem.
I had similar problem the screen was either blank or a thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. Tapping the tv or the switckes sometimes brought the screen back so I knew it was most likely a bad joint but could not find it untill you said were to look.

Thanks again.

I've fixed two of these TV's with the exact same problem. Sometimes hitting the TV brings the picture back for a while.

If you own a soldering iron, it's an easy fix. If your not that technical then, i agree with the last comment. Just get a new TV.

First, I'd like to caution that your CRT has an EXTREMELY dangerous level of voltage. Never work on your TV while it is plugged in. Wear gloves while working inside the TV. And stay away from the rubber circle that goes into the metal housing.

OK, the problem is a cracked solder joint. Disconnect all the wires connecting to the circuit board and remove the board from the unit. Along the edge of the board, close to where the power button is located there is a single row of headers. Because the board is flexible, the solder joints near the push buttons get stressed and crack. Just reflow the solder on all of the pins. Reassemble the TV and your picture should be restored.
