Repairing a zip on a coat?

Hi, my son has pulled of his pull part on the zip. The zip itself is in tact, but he got it caught in the outer material, tugged and tugged and the mechanism that pulls the teeth together totally snapped.

This coat is too expensive and much loved to just throw away. Taking it to a clothing repair shop has been estimated at £20.00

All and any advice greatfully received.

Thank you

My son put his hooded jacket in the wash and now the bottom part is gone. How do we fix this?

When the slider 'handle' broke on my toolbag's metal zip, I replaced it with a small keyring. Easy, cheap, and works a treat. Might not be the ideal solution for a nice coat though - but then again, maybe it'll start a new trend :-)

All you need is a "Slide" for the zipper. Remove the two metal "stops at the top of the zipper. (save them as you'll be reapplying them) then pull off the slide and call your local sewing center to find a new slide. On the back of the slide is a number, that is the size of slide you'll need to buy. You may need to buy a replacement zipper just to use the slide. Then thread the new slide onto the zipper, you'll have to work with it for a little while but it will go on and them put the two stops back on and you should be good to go. FYI: This only works on metal zippers not plastic.
