Fuel solenoid keeps cutting out is it a faulty relay?

My peugeot 106 diesel engine runs but will then randomly cut out.
It can be fixed by connecting a wire to the battery and to the fuel solenoid the lights on the dash will come on and I can start the engine and the car will work again then all i have to do is take the wire off and the engine will keep running .

Hi been looking at wiring diagrams for this one i assume the vehicle does not have an alarm or immobiliser the wiring diagram shows no relays for the solenoid its a direct power supply from the ignition switch so you have either got a faulty ignition switch or wiring from switch to solenoid if it has got and alarm or immobiliser it could be a fault with them
