switch on dc04?

My 04 keeps stopping and starting when the cable is pulled and therefor has a loose connection at the switch. I cannot remove the switch to tighten the connections as there is no screw and it will not pull up easily and may break the housing if I force it.
Please advize me how to take the switch out.

Most likely, the problem is not with the switch. The copper wire inside the cord breaks where the cord is bent most often. This can be corrected by replacing the power cord. If you remove the wand, you will see one screw that is holding the front switch cover in place. Once you remove the screw, press the two tabs in the back to pop the cover off. This will give you access to the cord and switch connections. Voila!
