Cement mixer motor overheating?

I have a belle Cement Mixer which has just started to overheat once the drum is loaded. You can smell it coming from the motor and eventually it cuts out. I have then to press the resart button after it has cooled down and works fine again till you start loading the drum again. Could this be the brushes or is a replacement motor required?

Brian - did you ever get to the bottom of this belle motor overheat problem. AC motor so no brushes but mine is doing the same???? Did you have to buy a new motor or did you find a fix please?

Check the gearbox! Make sure there is sufficient oil in it. If not, 3 things : (a) this could be the smell (b) will add to resistance and overloading effect (c) top up with EP 80/90 oil asap.
