bernina runs non-stop when foot pedal is plugged in?

When I plug in my Bernina machine the machine starts running very fast without stopping. The pedal doesn't seem to be pressed down at all. Yesterday when I plugged it in there was a small spark near where the plug attaches to the pedal

It's a Bernina Favorit 940. Any ideas what might be wrong and how to fix it?

Hello Donna,
Chances are the suppressor in the foot control has blown, quite common on all machines, you need to undo the foot control and inside you will see what looks like a big fuse, take it out and discard it and you will find it will be okay, no need to replace it, they are not needed these days, any problem e-mail me below.
