When I turn on the television, gradually the image gets dimmer and dimmer until it goes completely black. I think it is a bulb issue, but would be good to be confirmed. Also if it is a bulb issue how hard is it to replace it myself, and is it dangerous to do so? Thanks.

Not a bulb issue. More likely power supply or a component failing as it warms up. Repair may not be economic - consider new TV.

Strongly suggest you do not attempt to repair yourself given the "bulb" question - most dangerous.
