My Thomson Sky+ box is stuck in the standby mode, can you help me fix it?

Addenda to below:

..\once circular play light comes on, take fingers off ch up/down buttons & press select button. Circ light, red dot and arrow lights will all flash for few seconds eventually going out leaving red standby button. Switch on using remote.

You can try full system reboot.....
1)switch power off to Sky unit & leave 120 secs

2)Hold channel up & down buttons simultaneously then switch power on

3) Continue holding ch up & down buttons until circular play light, red light & right arrow all light up

4) Continue holding (about 2 mins) till all lights go out & stanby light only is on.

5) Using remote, switch on ??

6) You will lose any saved progs.

hi your box isnt stuck in standby mode its failing the "post test" (pre operations systems test). Their are two main reasons for this

1 your hard drive has failed (this is the most likely cause)

2 the capacitors on the power unit have blown.

if the box is outside its warrenty then open the box up look at the power unit this will be the long peace of circuit board that the mians power lead plugs into. their will be about 10 capacitors of ot the are round long things mainly blue or brown with a strip down the side if the ends are domed are bulging then that could be the problem.

all good tv repair shops can fix this for you
