Conclusion first:
The waste hose can't start against the floor. It must rise up about 2 feet/70 centimeters first.
This solves the problem of "water tap closed indicator light".

I bought a whirlpool machine, same problem, returned it, took the money.
A year later (now) I bought the same machine. Same problem!
On both machines I ignored the manual saying "don't disconnect the waste pipe from the clamp on the back of the machine". But I did that so it could reach the sewer.

Theory: If the machine don't feel any pressure against the outlet, it assume the waste hose is gone and wont empty the machine. If the machine is full it can't take more water in.

Tried everything and nothing worked. High pressure, low pressure. Cleaned the hose filters and pump filter. Turned it off overnight. Nothing. Then, just held down the reset button and it made a weird groaning noise for a minute, so I turned it off. Then BANG, it was working again. Try the reset button!

I can confidently say that I the problem has now been solved. It seems the waste pipe was too far into the inlet pipe -thanks all for your advice, at last I can do my washing. Hooray!!

The same thing happens to me every time I put the machine on and its driving me MAD! It worked fine before it was moved so it's probably not the hoses. Could it be that the pressure is too high? Sometimes it works if I slightly close the tap on the water pipe but that might just be a coincidence. I will try to move the water waste pipe to see if it has an effect....here's hoping I get clean clothes soon!

I got same problem, took the filter gause right out, and left it, it was clean too.
Still happening.

I have this problem with my washing machine too.Have cleaned the filter and checked pipe at back not shoved down too far in pipe but Watertap closed error keeps coming up during the wash? Any other ideas what I can do to fix this

nothing new to say about this problem, 1st advice is in fact very good, only have 1 thing to say to expand it. Be very careful when u remove filter, cause it is plastic and very easy to brake with flyers, and if it's not filter in the valve that is causing your problem, do not chsnge any electrical parts yourself. You wouldn't belive if i told you how often i come to repair an appliance and find that someone tryed to repair it him or herself and only made more damage. That is when i really charge the repair

I was having the same problem after moving the washing machine to a new point in our new kitchen, the waste pipe was pushed to far down the waste

Mo Lunat, August 2009
make sure waste pipe isnt too far into outlet pipe as it will back syphon and make sure no blockage in pump if it cant empty it wont fill and sometimes tap closed comes up

turn off the hose taps, remove hoses and check the plastic filters in the valve inlet connection. You will need a pair of thin pliers to grip the filter tab and pull it out. Clean any debris off with a toothbrush, rinse and reinstall in valve.
May also be low or no water pressure in the supply pipe - check by opening the tap and running into a bucket. Only other option after that is to replace the valve(s) in the machine.
