Guess that you trying to connect the device using USB drivers. Go to Device Manager (Click on Start button->Run and type devmgmt.msc and enter. In Vista you could enter it in Start search text box directly above Start button). Find if your device is shown in the tree some where with a question mark. If then the drivers to the device are not istalled properly. Rightclick and select update drivers and show the path to where the drivers to the device are present (may be in a cd?)
