How to get Laptop to allow sound through headphone socket?

I can't seem to get any sound from my Laptop once the headphones are plugged in...though I managed to do it before, I am unsure what I actually did!!! Any suggestions????

assuming you haven't muted the sound. plug your headphones in >click start >go to control panel> go to hardware and sound.> go to sound. try manage audio devices and try out the onscreen prompts which consists of various settings and sound tests. not trying to sound silly try different headphones also.good luck my friend.

You have probably muted the sound, try truning it back up.
