I don't think it's serious. I've had the same issue 2 or 3 times. I get it serviced and cleaned and it's fine afterwards. I suspect the earlier reply about the horizontal and vertical burners was correct.

fire goes out when boiler fires up

Get the manual and do a fault test. You can rule out a fault with the gas valve if you can get hold of a multimeter to check the various resistances on its contacts. If they are fine then the fault will most likely be a component on the PCB so you will have to remove and repair it, if you're any good with electronics, or buy a new one.

My Baxi Bermuda had the same problem - sequence started then red light came on and locked out. It did this occasionally at first then all the time after a month or so.
I took the printed circuit board out and examined it. There was evidence of burning on the right side of the board where three small transistors(?) are sited. I got a new board off ebay for £34 and fitted that. It has been fine for three years til now!!

these baxi boilers must be bad, i have the same problem, the pilot ignites but thats all then lock out. sometimes takes up to a dozen times to get it going, ill be getting a log burner to replace the fire and a combi for the water and central heating, im sure it will be less hassle and alot more efficient x

Rip it out and get a Combi. These boilers are rubbish.

Cant get my boiler working., October 2010
Mine was doing the same thing. The pilot assembly has a double flame, one vertical, to light the burner and one horizontal, to heat the pilot sensing electrode. On mine the horizontal flame wasn't lighting (you can see this through the window on the right side of the boiler under the fire) so the boiler didn't know the pilot was lit, hence it locks out (red light). I got this repaired and it has been fine since.

Been having exactly the same problem - except once the boiler reaches temperature, it will not re-ignite. It also baffled my engineer, until he contacted a Baxi rep., who seemed to suggest that they were aware of the problem and had introduced a retro fit part (the boiler should go into 'pause' state when it reaches temperature, but due to the fault, it goes straight onto 'off'). The cost of the part is £260 + VAT, which I'm refusing to pay - I'll post an update if and when it's reolved.

This must be a common fault as I have the same problem. Can anyody Help?

I have the same boiler and extactly the same problem with the pilot light not firing occasionally. My gas boiler engineer has tried to mend it many times but the problem still persists. Basically, when there is a call for heat, the orange light will come on and the ignition will try to fire the pilot light but very often it fails to do so and after 2 or 3 minutes the light will turn red and the whole thing will need to be reset again, sometimes it takes 3 or 4 goes to get it working but it may fail again the very next day, how frustrating!!!

Any ideas or ways to resolve this problem will be very much appreciated.
