well mark, more good news..out of 2 sets of keys, there isn't a "c" key......now what? and I do appreciate all of your help so far

Oh dear. You will need one to turn to the special mode. Try your other keys anyway, but you should only be able to do it with the C key. You will need to order one from a Samsung cash register dealer.
