upstairs lights not working?

My upstairs lights have stopped working since my son put a new ceiling light in a bedroom. What could be the problem

He may well have mis-wired the ceiling rose. There can be as many as eight wires 3 Red - 3 Black - Brown & Blue and some earth wires as well. The fuse or breaker for the upstairs lights has probably blown/tripped too.
