I have been told that the locking mechanism on my front door has broken as the handle wont pull down to release locks. Can spare parts be bought and how easy is it to replace the part

It could simply be the handles, sometimes the spindles that are in the middle are supplied in two parts and occasionally snap. Take off the handles and insert a heavy screwdriver into the square hole and try to turn the latch back this way. If this works just buy a new set of handles at a B&Q. Take an old handle with you as there are a couple of sizes. I always try the cheapest option first but there is nothing wrong with the previous answer.

spare parts cant be bought but you can buy a new lockstrip, you need the name and model number of door locksrip so you can order one before you get your door open,or you will have a door that wont lock.you can buy a new lockstrip from northwest hardwares website or email me and I can give you a price for one,hope this helps
