the handle is loose on the outside of front door and does nothing when pushed up to lock,no problem from inside

take your handles off by unscrewing the screws on the handles on the inside of your door and check if the spindle hasnt snapped or is to small and worked its way loose over time,replace spindle if this is the case and door should work fine.hope this helps
