I have a Amstrad satellite receiver,the infrared on the front panel is not lighting up so I can't us my remote control.

The light on the front panel is not the infra red for the remote, it is just the power on LED. If that is not alight then the unit isn't powered. Check the mains supply, plug, fuse etc. There should be an on/off switch on the unit so check that's not switched off. Change the batteries in the remote to ensure that isnt the problem as well
