How can I let the air out of the gas supply to my Potterton Kingfisher II?

My gas supply pipework was replaced recently and this has left me with air in the pipeline between the gas meter and the boiler. I have no other gas appliances that are used. How can I bleed the air out of the gas pipe to the boiler, before I attempt to light the pilot light, other than by holding down that black knob for a number of days?

WHO CARRIED OUT THIS WORK ON YOUR GAS SUPPLY??? it is an offence under the GAS SAFETY INSTALLATION AND USE REGULATIONS 1998 to alter your gas pipework unles you are deemed competant to do so (corgi registered installer) there is a set procedure to carry this task out. I strongly recommend you contact your nearest corgi installer.
