try spraying the track with light furniture polish giving it a rub over and then working the cord.

Even lightweight curtains seem to place too much weight on the track to allow the hooks to move freely. Try vaseline or grease on the top of track -it will completely reduce the friction on the track and strain on the cord

I don't have an answer, but I had exactly the same problem. I think there's a fault with these rods. Very, very annoying.
