Can I create a RAID 1 pair with two similar sized hard disks?

I want to create a RAID 1 set (a mirrored pair) of hard disks. I have one 100GB hard disk. If I bought a RAID controller PCI card and a second 100GB hard disk (possibly a different make from the one I already have) would I be able to make the two work as a RAID 1 pair?

Can you make two similar sized, but different make, hard disks work as a RAID 1 pair?
